she liked the idea of using the given name and famous\nname.\nHenry \"Nick\" Evans, Alameda, commended Council for honoring one of\nAlameda's greats.\nCouncilmember Daysog stated that everything written indicates that\nWillie Stargell was a great baseball player and humanitarian;\nAlameda owes a great amount of gratitude to Willie Stargell. other\nyoung players are carrying on the tradition.\nMr. Cabral stated Willie Stargell gave stars out every time he hit\na homerun; graffiti abatement has clouded the plastic roofing ;\nrequested looking into correcting the condition of the bus\nshelters.\n(06-419) Councilmember Matarrese stated the City had a favorable\nruling on the Beltline; thanked everyone involved; stated the City\nhas approximately $1 million in open space funds; suggested the $1\nmillion be used to set up an escrow account as an added sign that\nthe City is serious about having the land as open space; the City\nuses the Coast Guard field for soccer already suggested the Coast\nGuard be approached to determine whether the City could use the\nball field for other uses; stated the City could contribute to some\nimprovements.\nThe City Manager stated the Recreation and Park Director has had\nsome discussions with the Coast Guard and is working on expanding\nthe use beyond the soccer.\nMayor Johnson stated people from the softball associations have\nmentioned that the Coast Guard field would be the best field for\ncollege exhibition games.\n(06-425) Mayor Johnson stated the City has been reviewing the need\nfor additional senior housing over the years;
