stated the\nlighter gray has more reflectivity and would keep the structure\ncooler.\nMayor Johnson inquired whether the Library Building Team (LBT) had\na strong color preference.\nThe Assistant City Manager responded that the darker gray color was\nthe LBT's unanimous selection.\nCouncilmember Matarrese requested a report outlining items removed\nthrough value engineering; the roof and paint materials have a 25-\nyear guarantee; the architect stated that a coating could be\napplied if the paint starts to fade after 25 years; cleaning,\npriming and repainting would be done after 25 years and an\nadditional 25 years would be guaranteed; the cost is between $3 and\n$6 per square foot, which would amount to approximately $25,000 to\n$30,000.\nMayor Johnson inquired what was the cost difference between a\ncopper roof and the proposed roof.\nThe Project Manager responded the cost difference is approximately\n$60,000 stated the copper roof was a deductive alternative in the\nbid package. the architect put in a series of deductive\nalternatives and add alls in response to budget concerns; the\nroofing deductive alternative was an approximate $20,000 value; all\nadd alls were rejected and all deductive alternatives were\naccepted.\nMayor Johnson inquired whether the cost difference for installing\nthe cooper roof was $60,000.\nThe Project Manager responded in the negative; stated the value\nengineering cost was $60,000 there is currently no price on the\ninstallation of a copper roof; the contractor stated that work\nwould need to be stopped for 45-65 days until the current\nsubcontract was extinguished, a new subcontract was executed,\nmaterials were acquired, and the roof installed the contractor\nwants to start putting in the heating and cooling duct work; the\nduct work could get wet if installed before closing the building.\nCouncilmember deHaan inquired what was the roof's base metal.\nThe Project Manager provided a handout responded that the base\nmetal is 24-gage galvalume steel composed of 45% zinc and 55%\naluminum.\nCouncilmember deHaan inquired whether there would be deterioration\nof the base metal without the protective shield.\nThe Project Manager responded in the affirmative; he feels comfortable with the new owners ;\nthe curb strip on Appezzato Parkway needs to be addressed; planting\ntrees is important to balance the community in spite of existing\nlitigation; the area is high density and lends itself to\ntransportation alternatives the City should make every effort to\nproperly indoctrinate the new population and the virtues of public\ntransportation in a meaningful way inquired how staff was\naddressing the issues.\nMayor Johnson noted that someone mentioned to her that there was a\nbus stop along the dirt area on Appezzato Parkway people have to\nwalk through the mud to get to the bus stop in the winter months ;\nrequested staff to investigate the matter.\nCouncilmember deHaan stated that the bus shelter is one of the\ncheaper shelters and only has two seats; bus shelter accommodations\nshould be better.\n(05-507) - ) Councilmember deHaan stated that there is a new spirit at\nthe League of California Cities because of Propositions 1A and 76;\n84% percent of the voters supported cities;
