stated the Building Official\nwould need to respond.\nCouncilmember Matarrese inquired whether any safety issues would be\naddressed by the Building Official before the buildings were\nreoccupied and whether a Certificate of Occupancy would need to be\nissued.\nThe Supervising Planner responded that the Building Code requires\nthat only safe buildings be occupied.\nThe Project Architect stated that he was not aware that the\nBuilding Department identified any structural problems.\nVice Mayor Gilmore inquired how the balconies would be checked.\nThe Project Architect responded that a Structural Engineer would\nmake sure that the existing balconies are structurally sound.\nMr. Hartney stated that the Community Center and any additional\nwork on the old building needs to be built to 2001 CBC ; noted that\nthe Planning Department would check the safety of every building\nbefore a Certificate of Occupancy is issued.\nThe Acting City Manager stated that the exterior work is primarily\ncosmetic;
