body,date,page,text PensionBoard,2017-07-31,1,"MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PENSION BOARD OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD 4:30 P.M., APRIL 24, 2017 ALAMEDA CITY HALL 2263 SANTA CLARA AVENUE, ALAMEDA CONFERENCE ROOM 290 The meeting was called to order by Nancy Bronstein at 4:37 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present: Chair Mayor Trish Herrera Spencer, Secretary Nancy Bronstein, Nancy Elzig, William Soderlund, Absent: Bruce Edwards Staff: Edwin Gato, Financial Services Manager; Chad Barr, Administrative Technician — Human Resources MINUTES: Mayor Trish Herrera Spencer arrived at 4:42 p.m. and conducted meeting. Member Soderlund asked how the City got the overpayment back from the 1082 pensioner family of Isom. Soderlund believed 1082 pensioners are paid by PERS. Does the City have to give this money to PERS? Once the money was recovered how should it be accounted for? Human Resources Director Bronstein left conference room to move to office of Frances Gong, Administrative Technician for pensioners. Gong replied that we. pay from City’s general fund. Member Elzig asked if Board could see list of remaining pensioners and Technician Barr responded that a list could be provided for the next meeting. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 30, 2017 were moved for approval by Member Elzig and seconded by Member Soderlund. Passed 3-0. Pension Payroll and Financial Reports — Quarter Ending March 31, 2017 and City of Alameda Police & Fire Pension Funds Financial Reports for the Period Ending March 31, 2017. Financial Services Manager, Edwin Gato summarized the quarterly and fiscal year totals. Financial Services Manager Gato explained the 1079 charges increased by 4 percent and the 1082 changed 2 percent. The 1082 plan had a negative expenditure in February due to recovery of $12,444.40 from son of James Isom. Member Soderlund asked who initiated repayment and HR Director Bronstein replied that son noticed direct deposit and contacted City of Alameda’s Finance Department. Member Soderlund moved to accept the financial statement as presented. Member Elzig seconded. Passed 3-0. 4-B. Memo regarding death of 1082 Pensioner, James Isom and spouse. No comments regarding memo. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS, NON-AGENDA (PUBLIC COMMENT): There was no communication from the public. PENSION BOARD COMMUNICATIONS (COMMUNICATIONS FROM BOARD): Member Soderlund reiterated interest in confirming if the money recovered was for the City coffers or PERS.
